Guardian Fugitive Recovery is owned and operated by Derek P. Nelson, a veteran of the bail bonds, security, and investigations industries with over two decades of leadership and advocacy experience. Derek has held licenses as both a Minnesota Bail Bond Agent and a Minnesota Private Detective and is widely recognized for developing industry-leading protocols and standards that raise the bar for safe and effective recovery practices. Derek is also the former president of the Minnesota Professional Bail Bonds Association, and has held membership or leadership positions with other Associations in different States, and several National Associations.

Derek’s expertise extends far beyond field operations; he has been a driving force in legislative and policy reform and advocacy for the bail industry:

• Provided testimony, research, and expert consultation to legislative bodies and state agencies on bail, recovery, and public safety matters.

• Assisted in drafting and advancing industry-changing legislation that shaped how bail enforcement and the bail industry are regulated and understood.

• Developed processes and operational standards adopted by courts and law enforcement agencies when working with the bail industry.

• Led advocacy and consulting efforts not only in Minnesota but in multiple states nationwide, helping policymakers and leaders understand the vital role of commercial bail in public safety and pretrial accountability.
